The importance of Sport Recreation and the Arts

Hi. My name is Chris Townsley and I am an artist who also happens to have right-side hemiplegia cerebral palsy, a condition which
affects my muscle control and, in particular, my ability to eat, drink and speak.

I'm determined and headstrong and I've always been unwilling to let disability stop me achieving my dreams.

In 2003 I started attending an art program at Redcliffe. Until then, my family and I were completely unaware of my hidden artistic talent. The art program is the best thing we ever found and the staff and programs on offer have helped me grow as a musician, an artist and an individual.

I launched my professional career as an artist in 2010 with a solo exhibition in Brisbane called 'Creativity and Marginality'. This was a fantastic achievement for me after spending so many years developing my skills.

Painting has given me the opportunity to show I am unique and talented, and it has given me a way to communicate my passion and emotions. My artworks are inspired by the world around me, travel and my passion for boats, planes and cricket.
